SolarCorps Construction Fellow at GRID Alternatives
2018 — 2019
- Installed solar modules for income-qualified families in all four quadrants of Washington, D.C. during a 13-month term funded by AmeriCorps. Led teams of trainees or volunteers on the roof, ensuring the safety of all of a dangerous construction site while teaching people how to install solar to meet rigorous quality standards. Performed design reviews, assessed homes for solar and trained new employees on that process, offered excellent customer service for clients, and updated client information in Salesforce. Learned how to design residential solar systems and designed for several homes. Served as the sole construction representative for Solar Futures, a program teaching students about solar at a Ward 7 high school. Served DC with the goal of encountering diverse perspectives and stories.

- Engaged with local cultures and religions in urban and rural communities. Lived in an orphanage during the last portion of the trip and tutored older children in English. Facilitated an English program for kindergartners in the neighboring village and studied the Tamil language with host families.

- Resided in The Village and worked daily with at-risk children. Developed relationships by facilitating a weekly Bible study for grade school girls, organizing a weekly pool day for all children, and leading as a summer camp counselor. Informally spent time with different children every day to strengthen and nurture our interactions in positive and hopeful directions.
